EU approves €6.1 billion for Ukraine’s air and missile defense, ammunition and radars
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a new defense support package for Ukraine worth 6.1 billion euros.
“Today, we approved €6.1 billion for the air and missile defence systems, missiles, ammunition and radars that Ukraine urgently needs,” von der Leyen said.
“Europe stands with you today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes,” she added, ending her message with “Happy Independence Day” in Ukrainian.
The announcement comes as the EU continues to provide financing for Ukraine’s defense, including domestic weapons production.
In June, Ukraine received a first €3.2 billion disbursement from the EU’s €90 billion loan. Of the overall financing, €6 billion has been earmarked specifically for drone production in Ukraine.
