Ukraine conscripts up to 30,000 people into army every month after adoption of mobilization law – NYT
After the adoption of the law on strengthening mobilization in May, Ukraine is recruiting up to 30,000 people into the army every month. This is almost as much as the Russian army recruits every month, The New York Times writes, citing unnamed military experts familiar with this information.
This number is twice as high as in the last winter months. However, the newspaper indicates that it was not possible to independently confirm such information, and the Ukrainian authorities do not officially comment on it.
The Ukrainian military spoke to the NYT journalists, saying that the mobilization situation has improved significantly compared to the end of 2023, but it does not fully meet the need for people. At the same time, there is hope that the front line will be stabilized by the end of this summer.
The New York Times writes that many of those mobilized are still undergoing training, and recruits who have already arrived at the front are partly physically unprepared for combat operations.
Mobilization
The updated law on mobilization entered into force on May 18. According to it, all men aged 18-60 within 60 days (until July 16 inclusive) had to update their credentials.
Previously, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also said that mobilization in Ukraine increased after the adoption of the relevant law. The deputy head of the parliamentary committee on human rights, de-occupation, and reintegration, Ruslan Horbenko, said that a total of 120,000 people will be conscripted this year.
