SBU drones strike Salavat oil plant's core unit in Russia, sparking fire 1,500 km from border

Long-range drones from Ukraine's Security Service struck the "heart" of an oil refinery in Bashkortostan — the ELOU-AVT-4 unit, an informed SBU source told hromadske.

"The unit first cleans crude oil of water and salts, then turns it into gasoline, diesel, kerosene and fuel oil. A massive fire is raging on the plant grounds with a thick column of black smoke rising. Local Bashkortostan authorities also confirmed the refinery damage," the source said.

Ukrainian forces earlier attacked Gazprom Neftokhim Salavat in Russia's Bashkortostan republic, about 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

The Salavat refinery, Russia's 10th-largest with a 10 million metric ton annual capacity, produces over 150 petroleum and chemical products. Ukrainian drones first hit it in May 2024.
