Russian combined strike on Kyiv kills 6, including elderly woman
Russian troops attacked Kyiv with missiles and drones overnight into Tuesday, killing at least six people including an 86-year-old woman and wounding at least nine others including a child, the city's State Emergency Service and military administration head Tymur Tkachenko reported.
The assault began around midnight and continued with a second wave in the morning, Tkachenko said. Rescuers saved 18 people, including three children, from the rubble and fires.
As of 7:59 a.m., four more people died in a follow-up strike on the Sviatoshynskyi district, with three others wounded, according to Tkachenko.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko earlier said the injured tally rose to nine, including a child.
In the Dniprovskyi district, a fire broke out on the upper floors of a nine-story apartment building, killing two people and injuring five. Rescuers extinguished the blaze on floors five through eight and are now clearing debris and searching for possible victims. A garage cooperative fire is still burning.
In the Pecherskyi district, a strike hit a 22-story residential building, damaging floors four through eight. The fire was put out, and rescuers are dismantling structures. One mobility-impaired person was rescued from the building.
Around 7:17 a.m., Russians launched a repeat combined attack on the capital, Tkachenko said, with enemy targets approaching from the east. Kyiv residents were urged to remain in shelters.
