Ukrainian forces report strikes on Russian naval targets as Putin prepares St. Petersburg forum speech

Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck several key Russian targets overnight into Wednesday, including ships at the port of Kronstadt near St. Petersburg, as reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the military, ships and infrastructure facilities in the port of Kronstadt were hit.

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) confirmed that Ukrainian drones had struck warships based at the Kronstadt naval base in Russia’s Leningrad Oblast.

The strike targeted the ships’ mooring area. The results of the strike and the scale of the damage are still being assessed.

Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert ‘Magyar’ Brovdi stated that the Russian corvette "Boykiy" (a carrier of guided missile weapons) and the Veleshchinsky A large specialized coastal structure, resembling a deep reinforced concrete basin, designed for the construction, inspection, and repair of the underwater sections of shipsdry dock were hit. The commander calls the latter "the cradle of the Russian Navy."

Denys Shtilerman, co-owner of the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point, said the attack had been timed to coincide with the opening of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Because of the distinguished guests and the importance of the event itself, we could not ignore it — and urgently flew to St. Petersburg. But there is one nuance. We very much wanted to arrange an excursion for the guests to the cruiser Moskva, but unfortunately we could not bring it there, so we had to take out two other ships already at the event venue. I hope all guests of SPIEF-2026 will breathe deeply and enjoy the views,” he wrote.
