Most massive attack on Kyiv yet: Rescuers search for 15-year-old girl and family under rubble
A residential building in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district suffered the heaviest damage from Russia's massive overnight strike on the capital, with rescuers searching under the rubble for an entire family, including a 15-year-old girl, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported.
Part of the damaged building was literally blown away. A rescue operation is underway at the site.
Kyiv declared July 3 a day of mourning for the victims of what officials called the most massive Russian attack on the capital.
Flags on all municipal buildings will be lowered, and the city government recommended the same for state and private buildings. All entertainment events are banned in the city on July 3.
Damage was recorded in all districts of Kyiv. As of the latest reports, at least 13 people were killed and 86 injured, including children.
The day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a possible new large-scale Russian strike based on intelligence reports. He urged residents to be especially careful and use shelters. Zelenskyy cut short a visit to Ireland and returned to Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Kyiv was the main target of the attack, during which Russia used 74 missiles and 496 drones of various types. Air defenses neutralized 48 missiles and 476 drones.
