Russia attacks Kyiv's Podilskyi district, damaging residential buildings and kindergarten
Overnight into June 6, Russians attacked civilian infrastructure in Kyiv's Podilskyi district. Residential buildings, a garage cooperative, and a kindergarten were damaged, according to hromadske’s correspondent.
Fallout from the attack is being addressed on the grounds of the kindergarten. As a result of the strike, windows were damaged on both the first and second floors of the building. Toys that were in the rooms are also covered with glass. There were no casualties.
In the residential buildings located near the kindergarten, there is also destruction: windows were blown out in people's homes due to the blast wave, and facades were partially damaged. Cars belonging to residents were also hit. A garage cooperative was completely destroyed.
According to local resident Kateryna Mykolayivna, she did not go to the shelter and all fellow residents of her section stood on the ground floor. The woman says there are no military facilities nearby: "No factories, no plants, no military units."
"And where are they shooting? Just like that. A kindergarten, garages, a residential building. That's all," she noted.
Another resident of the damaged building, Yuliya, says that during the strike she was with her family in the hallway. The windows in her apartment are intact — only the mosquito nets fell out. However, she says that almost all neighbors have no windows. Her son also helped deal with the consequences of the night attack.
"From the window, you could see how a Shahed'[drone] flew into the building; the apartment there was burning... It was horrible. We have never heard such explosions before..." Yuliya said.
The heaviest destruction was recorded in a nine-story building in the Podilskyi district, where, a missile destroyed the building from the fifth to the ninth floor. As Kyiv State Emergency Service spokesman Pavlo Petrov reported, as of now, only there are five dead known. In total, the number of dead as a result of the Russian attack on the capital has risen to 11.
More than 250 rescuers are working at various locations, and about 60 units of special equipment are involved. Search and rescue operations continue.
