Two killed, four injured in Oct. 7 Russian drone strike on Kyiv apartment building

Two people were killed and four others, including two children, were injured after a Russian drone struck a 12-story apartment building in Kyiv on the evening of Oct. 7, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported.

The drone hit the building at the 10th-floor level in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district, causing a fire and partially destroying parts of the structure.

Emergency workers found the bodies of two people in one of the damaged apartments. They rescued 22 residents, including eight children, while emergency service psychologists assisted 12 people.

Firefighters extinguished a blaze covering approximately 100 square meters (1,076 square feet).

Separately, Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 142 drones between 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 and the morning of Oct. 8, including 82 jet-powered drones.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 126 drones, according to preliminary figures released at 9:30 a.m. local time. Drone strikes were recorded at seven locations, while debris from intercepted drones fell at four others.

The Air Force warned that the attack was still ongoing, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
