North Korea may send its engineering troops to temporarily occupied Donetsk Oblast as part of agreement with Russia
As part of the agreement with Russia on "automatic military assistance", North Korea will send its engineering troops to the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk Oblast, reported the South Korean TV channel TV Chosun, citing its own sources.
As early as July, North Korean conscripts will allegedly be sent to occupied Donetsk Oblast. There, in particular, they will help with reconstruction projects in Donetsk, which allegedly suffered a lot as a result of hostilities.
North Korea currently has 10 engineering brigades. According to TV Chosun, the Russians promise "high salaries" to the North Korean military. If North Korea sends its soldiers to the territories occupied by Russia, then Pyongyang will be able to receive approximately $115 million in foreign currency every year.
Agreement between Russia and North Korea
On June 19, the self-proclaimed president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, came to the capital of the North Korea, Pyongyang, for the first time in 24 years. During this visit, Putin and the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, signed an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership. It provides for mutual military assistance in case of aggression against Pyongyang or Moscow.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stated that Moscow does not do anything in cooperation with Pyongyang "that does not comply with the norms of international law", and "the parameters of providing mutual assistance are clearly prescribed in the new agreement." At the same time, Kim Jong Un said that the treaty "has a peaceful and defensive character", which will allegedly become a "driving force" for the creation of a "new multipolar world".
