The self-proclaimed president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, met with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, in the capital of North Korea, Pyongyang, reported Reuters, the Associated Press, and Russian propaganda media.

The two leaders held a meeting at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed his "full support" for Russia in its war against Ukraine. In turn, Putin expressed his admiration for "how Pyongyang has transformed over the past 24 years."

Next, the two heads of state went to Kumsuman Palace, where they will talk face to face.

Putin's visit to North Korea took place for the first time in 24 years. Reuters writes that Russia is using the "warming" of relations with North Korea to "needle" Washington.

Meanwhile, the United States fears that the Russian Federation may provide assistance to North Korea's missile and nuclear programs, and North Korea, in turn, to ballistic missiles and artillery rounds that Moscow uses in the war against Ukraine.

In September 2023, Putin already held a meeting with the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un, in Russia’s Amur Oblast. It is believed that during this trip, they agreed that Pyongyang would receive help from the Russian Federation in its space program in exchange for providing Russia with weapons for the war in Ukraine.

This is a violation of UN resolutions, so before the next meeting between Putin and Kim, the United States and South Korea warned Russia against establishing closer military ties with the DPRK.

The representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, the day before, repeated the accusation that North Korea supplied Russia with "dozens of ballistic missiles and more than 11,000 containers of ammunition" for use in Ukraine.
