US Special Envoy Kellogg reports 'extensive and positive discussions' with Zelenskyy
US President's Special Representative for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg said after talks with Ukraine's top leadership that the discussions were "extensive and positive."
"A long and intense day with the senior leadership of Ukraine. Extensive and positive discussions with [Volodymyr Zelenskyy], the embattled and courageous leader of a nation at war and his talented national security team," Kellogg wrote.
On the eve, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the meeting with Kellogg “restores hope.” He stressed that Ukraine needs agreements with the United States that “will truly work.”
"I have instructed my team to work quickly and very sensibly. Economy and security must always go hand in hand, and the details of these agreements matter—the better they are structured, the greater the results," Zelenskyy said.
He said Ukraine was ready for a “strong, truly beneficial deal” with US President Donald Trump on investment and security. He also noted that the Ukrainian side had proposed “the fastest and most constructive way to achieve a result.”
Kellogg's visit to Ukraine
Kellogg's trip to Ukraine was initially scheduled for early January. He was to meet with senior officials in Kyiv and also visit Rome and Paris. However, the visit was postponed.
Kellogg later planned to come to Ukraine between February 13 and 22. Zelenskyy said that he would like to go to the front with the American special envoy so that he could "see our realities."
Although this did not happen, Zelenskyy said that on the first day of his visit to Kyiv, Kellogg met with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the heads of intelligence and special services, and also had a meeting with the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak.
