Drones strike Russian oil depot in Penza, spark fire (VIDEO)

Drones attacked an oil depot in the Russian city of Penza overnight into Friday, according to Governor Oleg Melnichenko.

Russian air defense systems allegedly downed four drones. Debris from one of them fell onto the oil depot's territory, sparking a fire.

The fire at the oil depot started around 4 a.m. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. Firefighters — 46 personnel and 14 pieces of equipment — worked at the scene.

A so-called “Carpet” plan protocol and “drone threat” regime were introduced in Penza Oblast, remaining in effect until 6 a.m.

Overnight attack across Russian regions

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that from 11 p.m. January 22 to 7 a.m. January 23, Russian air defense intercepted and destroyed 12 Ukrainian drones, including:

  • 7 UAVs over Belgorod Oblast;
  • 2 UAVs over Voronezh Oblast;
  • 1 UAV over Bryansk Oblast;
  • 1 UAV over Penza Oblast;
  • 1 UAV over Astrakhan Oblast.

The governor of Voronezh Oblast stated that debris from a downed UAV caused a roof fire in one private home. A blaze started there, but no one was injured.
