UK pledges new support package for Ukraine

The United Kingdom announced a new package of military, humanitarian, and energy support for Ukraine, including emergency power grid funding, medical mentoring, and helicopter pilot training for the first time, the British government reported on Tuesday.

The package includes £20 million ($27 million) for urgent energy support to protect and repair Ukraine’s power grid and add generation capacity — bringing total UK energy aid since the war began to more than £490 million ($661 million).

Another £5.7 million ($8 million) will go to humanitarian aid for frontline communities, people needing evacuation and those affected by airstrikes or internal displacement.

British military surgical teams, nurses and physiotherapists will continue mentoring Ukrainian medics, including accompanying them during complex battlefield operations.

For the first time, Ukrainian pilots will receive helicopter training at a UK air base.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is expected to announce an additional £30 million ($40 million) to strengthen Ukrainian societal resilience and support justice efforts for victims of Russian war crimes.
