Explosions heard in Chechnya's capital of Grozny. FSB building and military base appear to be targeted

Explosions were reported in Grozny, the capital of Russia's Chechen Republic, from dawn on May 8, with drone attacks apparently targeting a military base and a building housing the local FSB headquarters, according to local sources, including opposition movement Niyso, and open-source analysts.

Chechen authorities had not commented on the attacks as of the time of reporting.

Footage shared on social media showed strikes near areas where Grozny's new administrative building, a military compound, and the local Federal Security Service (FSB) office are located.

OSINT analysts at the Astra Telegram channel, reviewing the circulating footage, said drones struck the Khankala district on the outskirts of Grozny — the location of a Russian military base and the headquarters of the 42nd Guards Motorized Rifle Yevpatoriya Red Banner Division (military unit 27777), which is part of the 58th Combined Arms Army of Russia's Southern Military District.

A second strike hit an area near Grozny's central railway station — less than two kilometers from Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov's residence and approximately 1.2 kilometers from the Grozny City complex. The FSB directorate for Chechnya is located roughly 120 meters from the station.
