“Russia should make a deal”, says Trump after meeting with Zelensky
US President Donald Trump said to journalists that “Russia should make a deal” following his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
“We had a very good meeting. Russia should make a deal. Russia has lost tremendous numbers of people, and so has Ukraine. Last month, they lost 35,000 soldiers between the two of them. This is on a monthly basis. And it's crazy what's going on there. We had a meeting, and I spoke with President Putin on Sunday,” said Trump.
According to the Kyiv Independent, Trump and Zelensky held a meeting joined by French President Emmanuel Macron. Trump also said that he intended to speak with Zelensky in a one-on-one meeting.
The President of Ukraine shared on social media a photo of himself sitting at the G7 leaders’ round table, directly opposite Donald Trump. Seated next to them were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.
“It’s always important to coordinate our positions,” Zelensky wrote in the caption to the photo, not revealing any details of the conversation.
The 52nd summit of the Group of Seven (G7) leaders, chaired by France, is taking place from 15 to 17 June in the French resort town of Évian-les-Bains, to which Ukraine has also been invited.
Before his arrival, the President of Ukraine announced that he had spoken with Donald Trump, discussing, in particular, the possibility of arranging a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the US.
During the official round-table discussion in Evian, the leaders of Ukraine and the United States were seated on either side of French President Emmanuel Macron.
