At least 95 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing after catastrophic flash floods struck Nepal and neighboring Tibet, triggering a major search-and-rescue operation. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said it is seeking information about two Ukrainian citizens who may have been affected.
At least 579 tourists and pilgrims from 26 countries are reported missing, according to Reuters and the BBC. Many had been traveling toward Mount Kailash.
Helicopters and drones have been deployed in the search, but widespread damage to roads, bridges, power lines and communications is hampering rescue efforts.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said its embassies in India and China had contacted local authorities. It has received two inquiries: one concerning a Ukrainian woman who may be missing in the affected area and another concerning a Ukrainian man whose relatives have lost contact with him.
There is currently no confirmed information that any Ukrainian citizens have been killed or injured, the ministry said.
Nepalese Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said an earthquake may have triggered an avalanche into a river valley, although the cause of the disaster has not yet been established.
