Latvia sentences woman to six years for €43 payment toward Russian anti-drone equipment
A Latvian court sentenced a pro-Kremlin activist to six years in prison for transferring €43 ($50) to support Russian troops fighting in Ukraine, Delfi reported on Oct. 7.
The Riga City Court found Polina Kamļova guilty of providing financial support to the Russian military. She was also sentenced to three years of probation supervision after her prison term.
According to Latvia’s State Security Service, Kamļova used an acquaintance in Belarus as an intermediary to transfer the money toward the purchase of equipment designed to jam drones for Russian troops in Ukraine.
Prosecutors had sought an eight-year prison sentence.
In her final statement before the verdict, Kamļova called the transfer a mistake but denied intending to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Kamļova is a member of the Latvian Russian Union, a political party associated with the country’s pro-Russian movement.
