Trump says he deserves Nobel Peace Prize but doubts he will win
US President Donald Trump said on Oct. 7 that he deserves the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize but expressed doubts about receiving it, two days before the Norwegian Nobel Committee is due to announce the winner.
"I don't know what their decision is going to be," Trump told reporters. "They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me."
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he deserves the award for his role in resolving international conflicts, saying he has helped end eight wars since returning to the White House in January 2025.
However, parties to some of those conflicts have disputed his role, while fighting has resumed in several regions, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the Cambodia-Thailand border, Reuters reported.
Trump has also failed to secure an end to Russia's war against Ukraine, despite promising to resolve it on his first day in office. Meanwhile, the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran has led to a conflict lasting seven months.
"It is about that time," Trump said of receiving the Nobel Prize, adding that he had been honored to receive it "indirectly" from last year's winner.
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, gave Trump her Nobel medal in January 2026 while seeking US support for her efforts in Venezuela.
Leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have publicly said they nominated Trump for the prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not confirm nominees, whose identities remain confidential for 50 years.
The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced on Oct. 9.
