New Russian drone attack kills one in Kyiv, triggers emergency power cuts and water disruptions
A Russian drone attack on Kyiv on the morning of Oct. 8 killed one person and injured at least five others, as emergency power outages disrupted water supplies across parts of the Ukrainian capital, city officials reported.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said drone debris fell in an open area in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district. Four of the five injured people were hospitalized.
Energy company DTEK said emergency power cuts had been introduced in Kyiv and the surrounding region on orders from Ukraine's national grid operator, Ukrenergo. Previously announced outage schedules were suspended.
Kyivvodokanal, the city's water utility, warned that voltage drops had disrupted electricity supplies to some water facilities.
Water pressure could fall in the Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, with some buildings potentially losing water altogether.
Klitschko reported 11 people injured in Kyiv since the beginning of Oct. 8.
The latest attack followed a separate Russian drone strike on a 12-story apartment building in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district late on Oct. 7, which killed two people and injured four others.
