Kyiv mourns firefighter killed in Russian double-tap strike on January 9

Kyiv bid farewell to 36-year-old firefighter Oleksandr Zibrov, who died in hospital from severe injuries sustained during a second Russian strike on January 9 while responding to an initial attack on a residential building in the capital's Darnytskyi district, hromadske’s correspondent reports.

Zibrov and his colleagues arrived at the damaged building in Darnytskyi when Russian forces launched a follow-up strike, causing him critical wounds.

Doctors fought for his life over 18 days until his death on January 26.

Relatives, friends and colleagues gathered at one of Kyiv's fire stations for the farewell ceremony.

That same night of January 9, a 56-year-old paramedic was killed while aiding victims, with four medics and five rescuers — including Zibrov — wounded overall.

Russia's massive attack on Kyiv killed four people and injured more than 20, with police noting emergency workers and medics among those hit during the repeated bombardment in the Darnytskyi district.
