Ten more people still missing after mass attack on Kyiv. Operation will last 'as long as needed', Zelenskyy says

As of Friday morning, 10 more people remain out of contact after Russia's massive attack on Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported.

The State Emergency Service confirmed the death toll has risen to 30, with more than 90 people injured.

The massive attack caused fires and destruction of residential buildings, civilian infrastructure and other structures at 40 locations in Kyiv. The most damage was to residential buildings in the Darnytskyi district: a nine-story building, a 16-story building and eight private homes.

Rescuers continue search operations at the site of the destruction from the sixth to the first floor of the nine-story residential building and are dismantling building structures at three addresses.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, among the missing are a 15-year-old girl and the parents of a 10-year-old injured boy who is in the hospital. In total, four injured children have been hospitalized.

Parallel to the search for people, forensic experts continue work to identify found body fragments.

Meanwhile, people are bringing soft toys to the strike sites, hromadske’s correspondent reported.

Roman, a friend of the deceased 22-year-old Yevhen, came to lay flowers at the foot of his destroyed building. Despite being a local, he said he does not recognize the courtyard damaged by the attack.

A whole family died as a result of the Russian attack — Yevhen himself, his parents and his fiancée. The couple was supposed to get married in August soon. Roman learned about his acquaintance's death from social media.

"It's sad. Because of one fool, such things are happening," he said.

Pensioner Oleksiy, who lives in another section of the destroyed building, said he knew many local residents: "It's very painful. I knew many who lived here. I sit and look at what is left, and it hurts. An entire family died here. I knew them. They were good people."
