Naked golden Trump statue goes on display at European Parliament

A 2.5-meter (8-foot) gold-coated statue depicting a naked Donald Trump sitting on another man’s shoulders has gone on display at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The satirical sculpture by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt is titled “Orange Plague” and is also known as “King of Injustice.” It depicts the U.S. president holding an oversized golf club while sitting on the shoulders of a smaller man.

Galschiøt said the sculpture is coated in 23-karat gold. A card displayed beside it reads: “I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I would do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back.”

The artist has described Trump as an obstacle to efforts to address climate change.

The sculpture was brought to the European Parliament by Danish left-wing lawmaker Per Clausen and is being displayed at a busy passage connecting two of the parliament’s buildings. It is scheduled to remain there through Oct. 8.

Clausen said he was not concerned about a possible reaction from Trump.

“If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage,” he said.

Trump has not commented on the sculpture. The work has previously been displayed in other European cities and at the COP30 UN climate conference in Brazil.
