Trump Jr. spent two days hunting in Mongolia with Russian oligarch who paid for his wedding celebrations - FT

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, spent two days hunting in Mongolia with Kremlin-linked Russian businessman Umar Kremlev, who previously paid hundreds of thousands of dollars toward his wedding celebrations, the Financial Times reported on October 27.
The newspaper reconstructed their late-August trip using accounts from local guides and officials, flight records, social media posts and public documents.
According to the FT, Kremlev flew from Kazakhstan to Mongolia's capital, Ulaanbaatar, before traveling to Trump Jr.'s hunting camp in the country's west. He was accompanied by Russian businessman Arthur Martirosov, a partner at the US-sanctioned venture capital fund Voskhod.
Kremlev reportedly spent two days with Trump Jr. before returning to Ulaanbaatar. One person familiar with the trip told the FT that the two men avoided being photographed together at the camp.
A spokesperson for Trump Jr. confirmed their friendship but denied any business relationship.
"Don has made clear that he has a personal friendship, not a business relationship, with Umar. Their friendship is largely based on their shared love for hunting, fishing and the outdoors," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that there was nothing surprising about the two men going hunting together.
The FT also reported that Trump Jr. hunted a rare Altai argali, a wild sheep species subject to conservation protections, and met Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh during the trip.
Former US counterintelligence official Holden Triplette warned that personal relationships involving people close to the US president could attract the attention of Russian intelligence services.
"The moment the Russian security and intelligence services figure out someone has a relationship with anyone of high value, they will try to weaponise that," said Triplette, who served on the National Security Council during Trump's first term.
Earlier wedding controversy
Kremlev, who heads the International Boxing Association and previously led the Russian Boxing Federation, came under scrutiny after a ProPublica investigation revealed that he had financed wedding-related celebrations for Trump Jr. through a Dubai-based entity linked to the boxing organization.
Trump Jr.'s representatives acknowledged the payments and described Kremlev as a personal friend. Kremlev subsequently said Trump Jr. had reimbursed him.
Democratic lawmakers called for an investigation into the arrangement, while US Attorney General Todd Blanche questioned what there was to investigate.
Neither the hunting trip nor the previously reported wedding payments establish that Trump Jr. engaged in wrongdoing.
