UK will not invite Putin to 2027 G20 summit, Prime Minister Burnham says

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be invited to the G20 summit in Manchester in November 2027 because of sanctions against Russia, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said in an interview with The Economist.
Burnham said Putin's attendance was ruled out, although Russia could be represented by lower-ranking officials.
The prime minister also reaffirmed Britain's commitment to providing military and financial support to Ukraine until the war with Russia ends.
According to the report, London is prepared to contribute British troops to a peacekeeping mission if an agreement is reached to end the fighting.
Meanwhile, the British government wants Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Manchester summit, seeing the meeting as an opportunity to strengthen economic cooperation with China.
One of the summit's priorities will be developing global standards for artificial intelligence, with Britain seeking to act as an intermediary between the United States and China.
Burnham, who became prime minister in July 2026, has described his foreign-policy approach as "autumn diplomacy." It also involves reassessing Britain's relations with the European Union, the Middle East and Commonwealth countries.
Ukraine has not yet received an official invitation to the next G20 summit, scheduled for December 2026.
