Ukrainian investigative journalist released after detention in Vienna, Foreign Ministry says

Ukrainian investigative journalist Mykhailo Tkach has been released following his detention in Vienna, Austria, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry confirmed on October 9.

Tkach, head of investigations at Ukrainska Pravda, was detained on October 8 while working on a story involving former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.

The ministry said Ukrainian diplomats had been working with Austrian authorities since the previous evening to resolve the situation.

"We have just received confirmation from the Austrian side that Mykhailo Tkach has been released," the ministry said, thanking Austrian officials for their cooperation.

The ministry is still seeking confirmation of whether cameraman Yaroslav Bondarenko, who was detained alongside Tkach, has also been released.

Ukrainska Pravda previously described the detention as unlawful and demanded an explanation from Austrian law enforcement. The reasons for the detention have not been publicly clarified.
