Trump has mentioned Biden nearly 900 times this year, Reuters finds
US President Donald Trump has mentioned his predecessor Joe Biden at least 890 times since the beginning of the year — an average of about three times a day, according to a Reuters review.
Biden left office 20 months ago, but Trump continues to invoke him in speeches, interviews and Truth Social posts, blaming his predecessor for issues ranging from inflation and immigration to shortages of military munitions.
Reuters found that since Jan. 1, Trump has mentioned Biden by name at least 890 times across almost 200 events and interviews and around 190 Truth Social posts.
The economy was the most common subject: Trump invoked Biden at least 210 times while discussing economic issues, 168 times on immigration and 138 times on foreign policy and national security.
Trump has brought up Biden in settings ranging from first lady Melania Trump's movie premiere and the National Prayer Breakfast to the White House Easter Egg Roll.
His single-day record came during a NATO meeting in Turkey in July, when Trump mentioned Biden 16 times while discussing issues including military munitions, housing costs and the steel industry.
The repeated references come as Republicans campaign to retain control of Congress in the Nov. 3 midterm elections. Republican strategist Ryan Williams told Reuters that Trump has long used individual political opponents as foils.
“Donald Trump always needs a foil and it's better to have a single person than a party,” Williams said. “He's done this throughout his time in office.”
The White House defended Trump's repeated references to his predecessor.
“Joe Biden is the worst president in American history, and President Trump has spent every day cleaning up his mess and making the United States of America stronger than ever before,” White House spokesperson Olivia Wales told Reuters.
