Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine regarding the war, in particular with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, as quoted by the TASS propaganda agency.

According to him, the Russian Federation has questions about Zelenskyy's "legitimacy", but despite this, Moscow is ready to talk to him. Peskov also called the Ukrainian president's words that he was ready for negotiations "empty", since Zelenskyy allegedly forbade negotiations.

In addition, Peskov emphasized that, given the current situation on the battlefield, Kyiv should be the one most interested in peace negotiations.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he was ready to personally sit at the negotiating table with Russian leader Vladimir Putin if this was the only option for achieving peace.

Background

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that negotiations on the Russo-Ukrainian war can be held with anyone, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, due to his alleged "illegitimacy, cannot sign anything."

He also says that he is ready to "allocate people" who will negotiate with Zelenskyy, if he wants to.

The Kremlin leader mentioned Zelenskyy's decree, which stated that it was impossible to hold negotiations with Putin. He says that because of this decree, negotiations will supposedly be "illegitimate," and in order to start negotiations, Putin demands "to find a way to change the decree."

Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded by saying that with such statements, Putin "confirmed that he is afraid of negotiations and is doing everything to drag out the war."
