US President Donald Trump held a 75-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, discussing Ukraine’s Spiderweb drone strikes and Iran’s nuclear ambitions, with Putin vowing to respond to the airfield attacks, Trump reported on Truth Social.

According to the American leader, they talked about Ukraine's operation, as well as "various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides."

“It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace. President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” said Trump.

In addition, the US and Russian leaders discussed Iran and the so-called nuclear deal that Trump proposed to Tehran.

“I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement. President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion,” Trump added.

Earlier, the New York Times wrote that US officials expect Russia to retaliate "significantly" against Ukraine for these strikes. Although U.S. intelligence has not yet determined what exactly the aggressor state will do, it believes that Moscow may resume drone strikes on civilian targets, hit the power grid, or launch new waves of medium-range ballistic missiles.

Yuriy Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said that as of June 2, there were no signals of Russia's preparations for a possible "response" to the Ukrainian operation.

More about the operation

On June 1, the SBU conducted Operation Spiderweb, attacking Russian military airfields Olenya, Belaya, Dyagilevo, and Ivanovo with drones. The aircraft used included Russian A-50s, Tu-95s, and Tu-22 M3s.

According to a source in the SBU, the special services managed to hit 41 Russian aircraft. This includes 34% of the strategic cruise missile carriers at the airfields.

Our source said that the operation had been prepared for over a year and a half. To do this, the SBU first sent FPV drones to Russia, and later mobile wooden cabins. Drones were later hidden under the roofs of these cabins. At the beginning of the operation, the roofs of the cabins were remotely opened by launching the drones.

According to our sources, and later President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, all those who helped organize the operation have already been taken out of Russia. Nevertheless, Russia said it had put 37-year-old Ukrainian-born Artem Tymofeev on the wanted list, who allegedly owned the trucks from which the drones took off.
