Polish President Karol Nawrocki said no one had informed him that Poland's Defense Ministry was preparing to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.

He made the remarks during a news conference, Wirtualna Polska reported.

Nawrocki said he maintains contact with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, "but there must have been some misunderstanding here."

At the same time, he stressed that together with Kosiniak-Kamysz "we will clarify this and reach agreement on the issue."

Meanwhile, the defense minister himself said that the president is being told "nonsense," emphasizing that he is at the president's disposal and always open to discussion.

Days ago, Poland's General Staff said Ukraine and Poland are negotiating the transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine's Defense Forces in exchange for providing Poland with certain Ukrainian drone and missile technologies.

In July 2024, Poland said it was ready to transfer its MiG-29s to Ukraine on condition that the country receives modern Western aircraft from allies in return.

However, as of August, Kyiv had not received a positive decision on the jets, although the issue was raised. At the same time, Warsaw declared that it would transfer the MiG-29s once it fills its own gaps.
