Umerov officially appointed head of Foreign Intelligence Service, Klymenko takes over NSDC

Under the decrees, former interior minister Ihor Klymenko will become the new NSDC secretary.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Klymenko’s experience in his previous post would strengthen the component of “internal work for the sake of Ukraine’s resilience, coordination between defense and security structures, and countering challenges such as cyberthreats from Russia and the activities of criminal networks.”

Earlier, sources in the Office of the President told hromadske that Umerov would be appointed head of the Foreign Intelligence Service. Zelenskyy later confirmed the move during a meeting with heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions and called on them to support Umerov in the new position.

After Oleh Ivashchenko moved to Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, the Foreign Intelligence Service had been led on an acting basis by Oleh Luhovskyi.
