Ukraine ready to halt strikes on Moscow through Monday as US envoys hold talks - Zelenskyy

Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow through Monday and expects Russia to reciprocate by halting attacks on Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said ahead of planned talks involving US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Zelenskyy said he had spoken with representatives of the US administration, who had begun talks with the Russian side.

“From the moment of our conversation, we are ready to observe a halt in air strikes on the cities involved in the negotiation process,” Zelenskyy said. “From now through the end of Saturday, as well as Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow, and we expect the Russians to do the same regarding Kyiv.”

Zelenskyy said a plan for diplomatic meetings in Kyiv on Sunday, September 6, involving the US team had been approved.

“We are expecting Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and are ready for a substantive conversation,” he said.

Witkoff and Kushner are expected to visit both Moscow and Kyiv this weekend for talks aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Zelenskyy earlier said Ukraine would ensure that Russian airspace remained safe for the US envoys to travel, while Kyiv expected a “reciprocal silence” from Russia.

The visit will be Witkoff and Kushner’s first to Kyiv during Donald Trump’s current presidency.
