Ukraine, Canada sign 100-year partnership with over $2 billion in defense, energy agreements
Ukraine and Canada signed a declaration on a 100-year partnership on Sept. 11, alongside more than $2 billion worth of defense, energy, and reconstruction agreements announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The package includes funding to strengthen Ukraine's air defense, Patriot interceptor missiles supplied through the U.S. Jump Start mechanism, ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, and joint drone production projects.
Canada also said it would join FREYJA, a European anti-ballistic missile initiative that Ukraine is developing with European partners.
In the energy sector, Canada pledged support for restoring Ukraine's energy infrastructure, expanding energy storage capacity, and powering hospitals. Ottawa will also provide more than $430 million in loan guarantees for Ukraine to purchase natural gas.
Canada additionally committed an immediate $40 million contribution to Ukraine's veterans fund.
