Ukraine cannot export about 90 million tons of agricultural products due to the blockade of seaports by Russia. Occupier country wants to provoke a global food crisis, says Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in an interview with RBC Ukraine news agency.
Ukraine has proved to be an extremely powerful producer and supplier of food for all countries. Now the world is preparing for a powerful food crisis, caused not by sanctions against Russia but by the country's actions aimed at blocking Ukrainian ports.
"We cannot export about 90 million tons of agricultural products we have produced," the Prime Minister says. For the first time in a hundred years, one state is blocking the ports of another to create a food crisis in the world.
"Ukraine exports 47% of world sunflower oil, which makes it an №1 exporter. Ports are blocked, and tens of millions of tons of our products, including oil, cannot be delivered to those countries waiting for them," Shmyhal adds.
The Prime Minister says that seaports through which comes 70% of exports are now blocked. Most of the border is in a war zone or bordering with unfriendly countries. We have a kind of 'bottleneck' for export, very reliable, but with much less capacity than ports. We are talking about our western border with Europe," said the Prime Minister.
