Announcement of 2023 Shevchenko Prize laureates, destruction of surveillance towers in Russia: last night's highlights
The Committee for the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine has announced the winners of the 2023 awards, and the Kraken special forces destroyed two more surveillance towers in Russia. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.
Announcement of 2023 Shevchenko Prize laureates
The Committee for the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine has announced the winners of the 2023 prizes:
- Literature nomination — Kateryna Kalytko for her book of poems "The Order of the Silent Women";
- Publicistics and Journalism — journalist Vitaliy Portnikov;
- Music category — the performers of the Kozatska Chorea band for their audio album "Songs of the Ukrainian Revolution";
- Literature and Art History — Mykhailo Nazarenko for his book "Beyond Kobzar";
- Cinema — Iryna Tsilyk for the documentary The Earth is Blue as an Orange.
Destruction of surveillance towers in Russia
Kraken, a special unit of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, announce the destruction of two more autonomous Murom surveillance towers in Russia's Bryansk and Kursk oblasts.
Kraken did not specify when exactly the towers were destroyed, but noted that it was done by the forces of the special unit's anti-tank group.
The Murom towers are capable of conducting surveillance around the clock into the depths of Ukraine's territory at a distance of up to 15 km and correct Russian artillery, guide sabotage and reconnaissance groups, and block the activities of the Defense Forces.
Other news:
- Kharkiv subway will resume passenger transportation on March 12. The interval on all subway lines will be 15 minutes. The subway had been out of service since the Russian missile attack on March 9;
- recently, a border guard unit of the Luhansk detachment fought a positional battle with Russian forces near an industrial enterprise in Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast. Border guards set up an ambush and neutralized six occupiers;
- Poland is launching its largest rearmament in 50 years in response to the threat from Russia, The Telegraph reports. This year's defense budget is a record 19 billion euros. The country will also double the size of the army to 300,000 troops;
- a dust storm caused a chain reaction accident on a highway in Hungary, near Budapest, in which more than 40 vehicles collided. 39 people were taken to the hospital, including 10 children.
