Another massive missile attack, exchange of prisoners, success of Armed Forces: today's highlights
Russia launched more than 20 air—launched cruise missiles at civilian targets on December 31. Ukraine has conducted another exchange of prisoners, within which 140 people returned home. New missile attack
Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that during the massive shelling on December 31, Russia launched more than 20 air-launched cruise missiles at civilian targets using Tu-95MS strategic bombers. The launches were carried out from the Caspian Sea and land-based missile systems.
Ukrainian air defense destroyed 12 cruise missiles: 6 within Kyiv Oblast, 5 in Zhytomyr Oblast, and 1 in Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
Consequences of missile attack
Kyiv City Military Administration reported that a detached house was damaged in the Solomianskyi district of the city. In the Pecherskyi district near the Palats Ukrainy metro station, a hotel was hit. There is also destruction in the Holosiivskyi district. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that an elderly man died in Kyiv, and 21 people were injured due to the explosions.
In Khmelnytskyi Oblast there are hits, in particular, the regional center was attacked by Russians with drones and missiles. According to the Regional Military Administration, there are at least four wounded in the region.
In Mykolaiv, at least one fire started after the explosions: Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych said that there was damage to residential buildings. Later, the head of the regional administration Vitalii Kim clarified that there are 6 victims.
The head of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration Oleksandr Starukh said that two detached houses were partially destroyed as a result of the missile strike, and about 8 more were damaged. Four people were injured in the explosions: a man, two women (one of them is pregnant), and a girl born in 2008.
Ukraine returned 140 people home
Ukraine has conducted another exchange of prisoners, within which 140 people returned home. Among them are the wounded, defenders of Mariupol, Zmiinyi Island, volunteers of territorial defense from Slavutych, as well as Ukrainian defenders from Bakhmut direction. It was announcedby the Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak.
He noted that among the people who were returned, there are 82 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 15 servicemen from the terrorist defense, 22 National Guardsmen, 11 servicemen from the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and 10 border guards. These are 132 men and 8 women, including 22 officers and 118 sergeants and soldiers.
Success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On December 31, Ukrainian aviation conducted 6 strikes on the areas of the occupants' concentration and 1 strike on the positions of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems, and missile and artillery units struck 2 areas of concentration of manpower and military hardware and the control point of the Russian troops.
