Attack on Odesa, downed Su-34, army chief's announcement of personnel changes in brigades: highlights for March 2

Ukrainian military destroyed a Russian Su—34 bomber. In Odesa, the Russian forces hit a high—rise building with a drone, at least eight people were killed. Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander—in—Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced a reshuffle of brigade commanders in the east. We have collected the main news for March 2.

Attack on Odesa

Overnight, a Russian attack drone hit a high-rise building in Odesa, destroying one entry section. Eight people were killed, including four-month-old Timofiy and his mother, as well as three-year-old Mark. There are also eight injured.

The search and rescue operation continues.

In total, overnight, Russian troops attacked with three X-59/X-35 guided missiles and launched 17 Shahed attack drones. Ukrainian air defense destroyed 14 Shaheds in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

There is damage in Kharkiv as a result of the shelling. No injuries or deaths were reported. In the village of Velykyi Burluk, Kupyansk district, the body of an elderly man was found after a drone strike.

Downed Su-34

On the eastern axis, the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber. They also used anti-aircraft guided missiles against another aircraft, a Su-35. However, the downing was not confirmed.

According to Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, the two aircraft were dropping guided bombs.

Carte blanche for personnel changes for Syrskyi

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has the authority to make any personnel changes in the army. The head of state emphasized that he expects a report from the Commander-in-Chief and specific proposals for further changes and actions.

Prior to that, Syrskyi reported he had sent groups of specialists to certain brigades in the east where there were problems with staff training. In some cases, he was forced to make personnel decisions regarding commanders.

Wiretapping of German officers

Russian propagandist and RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan released a recording of a 30-minute conversation that allegedly took place between high-ranking Bundeswehr officers. In the recordings, they allegedly discuss theoretical strikes on the Kerch (Crimean) bridge with Taurus missiles.

The German Ministry of Defense confirmed the wiretapping of its officers, but the "leaked" recording could have been altered.
