As a result of Russian attack on Odesa during the night of September 24-25, the seaport sustained significant damage, and facilities in the historic center of the city, which is a UNESCO protected area, were damaged, reported Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.

According to the Odesa Oblast Prosecutor's Office, the seaport was destroyed as a result of the attack. A nearby hotel was also "smashed to pieces" and was out of operation.

"The hotel at the Sea Port in Odesa was a landmark and a bright attraction for everyone who has ever been to our city. Today, Russia destroyed it...," said Odesa rescuers.

Port infrastructure facilities, grain storage facilities, warehouses of a private enterprise and several private households in the suburbs of Odesa were damaged. The mayor of Odesa assured that all the damage would be repaired.

The blast wave damaged residential buildings and injured one civilian: a woman was injured by shrapnel and is currently in hospital.

Information about the victims is being updated as the rubble is being cleared. The full list of destruction and damage is also still being established.

Law enforcers have launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Details of the attack

During the night of September 24-25, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of the launch of Shahed kamikaze drones, Oniks supersonic anti-ship missiles, and Kalibr cruise missiles towards Odesa.

In total, the Russians launched 19 Shaheds, 2 Oniks missiles, and 12 Kalibrs to Odesa Oblast, the Southern Defense Forces reported. The Kalibrs flew with complex trajectories via different regions. To attack from the sea, in addition to the surface missile carrier, the Russians used a submarine from the Novorossiysk Bay. The Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down all the Shaheds and 11 Kalibr missiles.
