Billionaire Governor Resigns Over Dispute About His Assets

This video, released by the office of the Ukrainian President Poroshenko, shows him accepting the resignation of billionaire Dnipropetrovsk governor Ihor Koloimoskyi. Kolomoiskyi resigned late at night on Wednesday 25 March 2015 due strong public and political pressure over the oligarch's de facto control of two state-owned energy companies. 

The conflict arose after the Ukrainian parliament’s decision on 19 March, 2015 to reduce the control of minority shareholders in state-owned companies. The new law will make it easier for Ukraine to reassert control over several state assets. Kolomoiskyi was appointed governor in March 2014 in a bid to prevent the Dnipropetrovsk region from being infiltrated by Russian-backed separatists.
