Fence Along Ukraine-Russia Border Will Cost Half The Amount

According to recent estimates, the construction of a fence along the Ukraine-Russia border will cost half the amount previously anticipated. The government now intends to spend a total of 4 billion hryvnia (over $185 million) on the project.
In order to reduce construction costs it was decided that the iron fence would only be built in particular spots and not across the entire border. For example in the Kharkiv region they plan to build 315 km of fence along the region’s border with Russia. The protective structure will also include anti-tank ditches and watch towers with surveillance cameras.
Construction of the fence along the border with Russia started in autumn 2014. However due to the winter weather conditions and financial difficulties the project was put on hold and has only recently resumed.
