Comprehensive urban recovery, emergency electricity supply: last night's highlights
The Cabinet has preliminarily identified one settlement in each of the five regions where large—scale reconstruction will begin on the build back better principle. NSDC Secretary assures that UOC—MP monks will not be expelled from the Kyiv—Pechersk Lavra by force. Ukrenergo has agreed to receive electricity from 15 EU countries on an emergency basis.
Reconstruction of cities
The government is preparing to launch pilot projects for the comprehensive restoration of settlements in Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv oblasts.
The restoration will be based on the "build back better" principle.
"We are talking not only about rebuilding housing, but also hospitals, schools, kindergartens, administrative services centers, cultural facilities, etc.", said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Moscow Patriarchate will not be expelled from Lavra by force
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said that no force would be used against the monks and priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church — Moscow Patriarchate who are residing at the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery. However, he promised that law enforcement would not allow provocations.
"We will not drag them out by their feet, we will not use any force. They will leave on their own," explained the NSDC Secretary.
Emergency electricity
From now on, Ukraine has the opportunity to receive electricity assistance not only from neighboring countries, but also from 15 other European Union countries.
Ukrenergo explained that Ukraine can ask for help in unforeseen situations, such as Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
