The Ukrainian military took full fire control of the Svatove—Kreminna highway in Luhansk Oblast, the house of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was broken into, and Ukrenergo introduced unprecedented emergency power cuts in Kyiv Oblast. We have collected the main news from today.

Control of highway in Luhansk Oblast

As of the evening of October 28, the road between Svatove and Kreminna in Luhansk Oblast is under full fire control of Ukrainian troops, according to the spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Serhiy Cherevatyi.

Earlier, Luhansk regional governor Serhiy Hayday said that the Svatove-Kreminna road was "practically under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces".

Attack on Pelosi's house

Unknown persons broke into the house of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi in California. According to media reports, the husband of the high-ranking official, Paul Pelosi, suffered a "brutal attack" when Nancy herself was not at home. He was taken to the hospital where he is receiving medical care.

An unknown intruder in the house of the Pelosi couple in San Francisco was detained. His motives are under investigation.

Tougher blackouts

Stricter and longer blackouts will be applied in Kyiv Oblast in the coming days. The authorities urge to prepare for emergency power outages for an indefinite period.

DTEK energy company promises to publish a new schedule of blackouts in Kyiv in a day or two. If earlier power outages were to last up to 4 hours, now the cuts may be for 5 or 6 hours. The duration of the outage may be different for different addresses due to technical difficulties.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko announced that power supply will be temporarily cut off in all districts of the capital. If there are no emergencies, Ukrenergo specialists hope to eliminate the deficit caused by the attacks of the Russian occupiers within 2-3 weeks.

Heating season

Scheduled connection to heating continues in Ukraine. Currently, more than 19,000 residential buildings in 16 oblasts and Kyiv are already receiving central heating. First of all, social infrastructure facilities — hospitals, kindergartens and schools — have been connected to heating.

The Ministry of Reintegration reported that next week they will start delivering free firewood to residents of dangerous areas of eight frontline regions. These are Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv oblasts.

New US military assistance

The Pentagon officially announced that it will provide Ukraine with a new package of weapons and other assistance worth $275 million. The package will include additional ammunition for Ukraine's existing weapons, including HIMARS rocket systems.

Statements on completion of mobilization in Russia

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the completion of the so-called partial mobilization. Shoigu said that during the mobilization Russia managed to recruit 300,000 people to the army and that no other mobilization tasks are "planned".

The Kremlin dictator said that "only well-trained mobilized people" should be sent to the front line. According to Shoigu, 218,000 people are currently undergoing military training.
