Crimean bridge on fire, blackout at ZNPP, shelling of Zaporizhzhia Oblast: the highlights of the day

Crimean bridge is on fire
On the morning of October 8, social networks were flooded with blurry photos and videos of the Crimean Bridge on fire. Local residents, who posted footage of the fire, say they heard an explosion around 6 am.
As it became known later, railway wagons with fuel caught fire as a result of the explosion of the truck on the bridge. Traffic on the bridge was suspended.
At first, the Russian Federation kept quiet about the destroyed road surface, which was visible from the published videos. Later, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee of Russia admitted that two spans of the automobile part of the bridge partially collapsed there.
According to preliminary data announced in Russia, three people died as a result of the explosion on the Crimean bridge on October 8.
Blackout at the ZNPP
Due to shelling by the Russian occupying forces, the last communication line of the Zaporizhzhia NPP with the power system was damaged and disconnected. This was reported by Energoatom.
The last communication line with the 750 kV power system “ZNPP-Dniprovska” was disconnected at 00:59 on October 8. There was a blackout at the station, so the diesel generators turned on automatically.
IAEA Director General will go to Russia
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, after visiting Kyiv, is going to Russia to agree on a nuclear safety protection zone around the occupied ZNPP. This is stated in the IAEA report.
Grossi said that the resumption of shelling of the ZNPP, which led to a complete blackout, is “tremendously irresponsible”.
“The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant must be protected. I will soon travel to the Russian Federation and then return to Ukraine, to agree on a nuclear safety and security protection zone around the plant. This is an absolute and urgent imperative,” Grossi emphasized.
Occupiers shelled Zaporizhzhia Oblast
Russian occupation troops shelled a village in Zaporizhzhia Oblast with cluster shells using Smerch MLRS. One person died and four more local residents were injured. Oleksandr Starukh, the head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, announced this.
Among the victims is a one-year-old girl named Adelina. The child suffered multiple mine blast injuries. She is currently in a serious condition in the hospital.
Success of the Armed Forces
During the day, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Bilohorivka, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Maiorsk, Krasnohorivka, and Terny. This is reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The aviation of the Defense Forces made seven accurate strikes against the enemy's anti-aircraft missile systems. In addition, Ukrainian air defense units shot down one Orlan UAV.
Missile forces and artillery hit 8 areas of concentration of manpower, weapons and military equipment, 2 ammunition depots, and 10 other important objects during the current day.
