Death of volunteer in Kherson, drone attack on Crimea: highlights for December 5

Russian occupation administration reported a massive attack on Crimea with more than 40 drones, and volunteer Ruslan Anisenko was killed during the shelling of Kherson. We have collected the main news for December 5.

Death of a volunteer in Kherson

On International Volunteer Day, December 5, Russian troops killed a volunteer and philanthropist Ruslan Anisenko in Kherson, reported the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.

"The life of Ruslan Anisenko, a volunteer of the organization Real, tragically ended this morning. He was killed by a Russian shell fired at the city center," he said.

Drone attack on Crimea

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that in the early hours and morning of December 5, 41 drones were allegedly shot down, which were launched at targets in occupied Crimea.

In particular, the pro-Russian Telegram channel Baza writes that two drones tried to attack the Marine Oil Terminal oil depot in Feodosia. Only debris allegedly fell on the premises of the oil depot.

Later, a law enforcement source told hromadske that on the morning of December 5, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate hit the Marine Oil Terminal in Feodosia.

Zelenskyy's statement on housing for Heroes of Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that all those who have been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war will receive their own housing. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, at least 360 people have been awarded this title. 210 of them were awarded posthumously. The Ukrainian leader assured that the state would take care of each of them.

He handed over certificates for apartments to the service members of the Defense Forces of Ukraine who were awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and to the families of the fallen Heroes. In particular, today, on December 5, 12 service members and nine families of fallen defenders received them. Certificates will continue to be issued in the future.

Attacks on Ukrainian regions

On the morning of December 5, Russian occupation forces once again attacked the center of Kherson, killing two people.

On December 5, Russian troops also fired Grad multiple rocket launchers at Chasiv Yar in Donetsk Oblast, the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office reported.

A 50-year-old local woman died from her injuries. Five other people - four women and one man aged 38 to 84 - sustained shrapnel wounds. The oldest victim is in serious condition and doctors are fighting for her life.

At the time of the attack, people were receiving water and bread from volunteers, the prosecutor's office stated.
