A Russian Tu—22M3 bomber was destroyed in an attack on an airfield in Novgorod Oblast of Russia. Broken equipment of Russian troops is on display on Khreshchatyk. Ukrainian troops liberate another 3 km² near Bakhmut and make progress in Zaporizhzhya Oblast. We have collected the main news for August 21.

Elimination of bomber in Novgorod Oblast of Russia

Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, told hromadske that a drone attack on an airfield in Novgorod Oblast of Russia on August 19 destroyed one Tu-22M3 bomber and damaged two more bombers.

The day before, on August 19, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that a military airfield in Novgorod Oblast had been attacked by a drone, damaging one aircraft.

"Parade" of broken Russian equipment on Khreshchatyk

Destroyed equipment of the Russian occupation forces is on display on the main square of Kyiv. Vehicular traffic on Khreshchatyk Street will be blocked until August 28.

The Kyiv patrol police reported that traffic on Khreshchatyk Street will be blocked from Independence Square to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Street.

Kyiv police spokeswoman Yulia Hirdvilis said that passage near the exhibits is temporarily prohibited, although a number of people have already taken pictures with them.

Successes of Ukrainian troops in Zaporizhzhya and Donetsk oblasts

Over the past week, from August 14 to 20, Ukrainian troops liberated another 3 km² of territory in the southern sector around Bakhmut. In total, since the beginning of the counteroffensive, 43 km² on the Bakhmut axis have been returned to Ukrainian control.

Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar noted that if you look at the map, you will see "something like a horseshoe around Bakhmut."

In addition, Ukrainian units made gains in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, in the area southeast of Robotyne and south of Mala Tokmachka. Russian troops tried to regain lost ground east of Robotyne, but without success.

Planned combat operations are currently underway in this village. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive on the Berdyansk and Melitopol axes.
