Drone attack on Kyiv, artillery aid package: last night's highlights
The Russian military attacked Kyiv City and Oblast with Iranian kamikaze drones, and the UK plans to transfer hundreds of thousands of ammunition to Ukraine. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.
Attack of Kyiv Oblast by drones
Russian occupation forces attacked Kyiv and the region with kamikaze drones on the night of December 19.
The air raid alert lasted several hours. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, air defense forces shot down about 15 drones. In total, over 20 enemy drones were spotted.
According to the head of the Kyiv Military Administration Oleksiy Kuleba, as a result of the night attack by drones, infrastructure facilities and private houses were damaged in the region. Two victims are reported at this stage.
UK planning to transfer hundreds of thousands of ammunition
On December 19, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will meet with his counterparts from the Nordic countries, the Baltic States and the Netherlands at the second face-to-face meeting of the heads of the Joint Expeditionary Force in Riga.
During the summit, he plans to call on allies to continue military support for Ukraine next year and will announce a new large artillery assistance package. It is expected to include hundreds of thousands of artillery munitions worth more than $300 million (£250 million).
Power has been turned back on for 9 million people in Ukraine
Two days after the latest massive missile attack, power has been restored for 9 million people in Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that the work of transport was also normalized in most cities.
At the same time, Ukrenergo predicts an increase in electricity shortages on December 19, due to cold weather.
Putin visiting Lukashenko
On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay a one-day visit to Minsk for talks with self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a regular meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Staff on December 18. The situation in Belarus was discussed in particular.
"The world still heard our call"
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that FIFA had blocked the broadcast of his address at the stadium before the final match of the World Cup in Qatar.
However, it still spread — through the media and Ukrainian athletes.
"Although FIFA blocked this appeal [...], the world still heard our call. Our players spread the video...", Zelenskyy said.
