Europe Day on May 9

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree introducing the celebration of Europe Day on May 9 in Ukraine. The head of state also submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada that proposes to make May 8 the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II.

"We are returning to our country an honest history without ideological impurities. It is on May 8 that most of the world's nations remember the greatness of the victory over Nazism. It is on May 8 that the world honors the memory of all those whose lives were taken by that war. It was on May 8 that the Act on the Unconditional Surrender of the Wehrmacht came into force," Zelenskyy said.

Shelling of Kherson Oblast

On the afternoon of May 8, Russian troops shelled the villages of Kizomys and Stanislav, as well as the town of Antonivka. There are wounded civilians.

According to the head of the Kherson Oblast Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, 10 people were injured in the Russian shelling of Stanislav, including a 9-year-old child. The regional authorities later clarified that a 67-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were wounded in Antonivka.

Police officers are suspected of rape

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation notified three men, including two police officers, of suspicion of gang rape of a 17-year-old girl.

According to preliminary data, the three men were drinking alcohol in the apartment of one of them in Cherkasy. In the process of "respite", they were joined by a girl they knew. They drank alcohol and then raped the girl using physical force, investigators said.

The men have now been detained. They deny their guilt. They are suspected of gang rape of a minor (Part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code). If found guilty, they face up to 12 years in prison.

The situation in occupied Kherson Oblast

In the temporarily occupied Skadovsk and several villages of Kherson Oblast, the activities of the occupation administrations are being curtailed, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

During the night of May 6-7, the occupiers loaded documents, office equipment and other property of state institutions into vehicles. On the morning of May 7, a significant part of the Russian occupation administration left the city together with their families.

Currently, a similar situation is also observed in the villages of Mykhailivka, Petrivka, Shevchenko, Shyroke, Ulyanivka and Krasne near Skadovsk. The General Staff adds that recently, many kilometers of traffic jams have formed at the entrance to Crimea and in the area of the Kerch Bridge.
