The explosion took place between the ‘Sennaya Ploschad’ and ‘Tekhnologicheskiy Institut’ stations.

There has been an explosion on the St. Petersburg metro, in between the ‘Sennaya Ploschad’ station and ‘Tekhnologicheskiy Institut’ station.

As for 00:00, 11 people have died and 45 people have been injured. All the metro stations have been closed and an evacuation has been completed. The explosion has been confirmed as a terrorist attack.

The explosive device used was homemade, but the attack was not carried out by a suicide bomber. Another un-detonated explosive device was found at the site, however it was defused.

23:17 The agency ‘Interfax’, referencing a law enforcement source, has said that the terrorist attack on the metro in St.Petersburg was carried out by a suicide bomber and that the identity of the suspect has been established.  They have said that, ‘according to preliminary data he was a 23-year-old native of Central Asia’.

22:23 The Anti-terrorism Committee of Russia has declared that 11 people have died and 45 people were injured.

19:43 2 people have been declared as wanted in relation to the terrorist attacks in St. Petersburg.

17:36 It has been reported that 9 victims of the explosions have been brought to the Mariinsky hospital. 2 of them were clinically dead.

17:31 The main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case in connection to the explosions under articles concerning ‘terrorist acts’ and ‘illicit explosives’.

17:20 The National Anti-Terrorist committee has confirmed that a second explosive device was defused at the ‘Ploschad Vostanniya’.

16:36 The explosion in Saint Petersburg has been classed as a terrorist attack. This has been announced by a representative of the General Prosecutor, Oleksandr Kurrinyy.

15:49 The press-secretary to the governor of St.Petersburg has said that 50 people have been injured as a result of the explosion in the metro.

15:37 The president of the Russian Federation, Putin, has commented that “It is too early to be talking about terrorist activity, we are looking at all the possibilities, including domestic and criminal activity.’

15:33 Republic has said, that according to the Emergency Service, there were 2 explosions. 'Lenta' has reported 50 people injured and 5 have died, and TASS has reported that 10 people have died and 20 were injured. Another explosive device was found in one of the carriages, however it did not explode.

15:20 Press secretary to the Russian President, Dmitriy Peskov announced that Vladimir Putin has been made aware of the explosions on the metro.

15:17 “The entrances and exits to ‘Tekhnologicheskiy Institut’ and ‘Sennaya Ploschad’ stations have been closed. Trains are not stopping in the stations. The evacuation of passengers from the affected stations is in effect. It is presumed that the explosion in the carriage was a result of an unidentified explosice device”, according to an official statement from the metro press service.

15:15 According to the agency, at least 10 people have been injured. According to an Interfax source, there were 2 explosions, involving 200-3-- gramms of TNT.

15:13 TASShas reported, that according to a source, that an unidentified explosive device has been detonated in a carriage of the St.Petersburg metro.
