Explosions in Ukrainian cities on October 10
This morning, explosions were heard in a number of large cities of Ukraine. We collect everything that is known and confirmed so far.
Kyiv
From 8 am a series of explosions were heard in the capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the missiles hit objects in Shevchenkivskyi and Solomyanskyi districts of the city. He urged citizens to stay in shelters, and residents of the suburbs not to travel to the capital today. The central streets of Kyiv are cordoned off by law enforcement officers, rescue services are working.
According to reports from social networks, several hits were recorded in the city, damaged cars were burning on the streets. The spokeswoman of the State Emergencies Service Svitlana Vodolaha told us in a comment that as a result of several hits in Kyiv, there have been injuries and deaths.
09:54 a.m. As a result of shelling of Kyiv, the building of the Philharmonic, Khanenko and Shevchenko museums were damaged, said Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko.
10:00 a.m. Explosions are heard in Kyiv again. Probably on the left bank.
10:04 a.m. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Shevchenko Park were also damaged as a result of the missile strike. Information about the victims is being clarified.
10:07 a.m. The State Emergency Service of Kyiv informed us about more than 20 victims in Kyiv. There are casualties, information about their number is being clarified.
The President's Office reported that the Kyiv TPP was hit.
Kyiv train station and metro
State rail company Ukrzaliznytsia reported that all trains in Kyiv arrive and depart on schedule, the station is open for passengers with tickets, underground shelters are working, waiting for the train is possible in shelters. The ring train continues to run in the capital as per the schedule.
The subway stops its work. But all underground stations are working as shelters.
The last time Russian troops launched a missile strike on Kyiv in June, hitting a high-rise building.
Kyiv Oblast
Explosions were also reported on social media outside the city. The head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration Oleksiy Kuleba said that air defense is working in the region.
Where else were explosions heard?
A series of explosions was recorded in Dnipro. They were confirmed by the mayor Borys Filatov, who noted that more attacks are possible and urged the citizens to take shelter. Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko informed that there are dead and wounded as a result of massive missile attack on the region. All services are working at the sites of the attacks.
Explosions were also heard in Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Vinnytsia oblasts. Regional governors of Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lviv and Vinnytsia regions reported on the work of air defense systems.
At least three missiles were shot down over Mykolaiv Oblast, in particular over Voznesensk district.
Three missiles and five kamikaze drones were shot down in Odesa Oblast. Six missiles were downed over Bucha community of Kyiv Oblast.
Also, missiles were shot down over Kryvyi Rih, but some did strike the city.
It seems that the Russian military is targeting energy infrastructure facilities: attacks on them were confirmed in Kyiv, Lviv Oblast, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. There are power and water cuts in Poltava, Kharkiv and Lviv oblasts.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said that on October 10, education in Lviv schools will be conducted online. Also, the city recorded interruptions in mobile communication in the city. Sadovyi assured that they are temporary. The Lviv Oblast authorities confirmed the strikes on energy infrastructure facilities.
On October 10, classes in schools of Lviv, Rivne, Chernihiv, Volyn, Chernivtsi, Ternopil oblasts will be held remotely.
Ukrzaliznytsia warned about the possibility of delay of westbound trains due to damage to the contact network. Reserve diesel locomotives are already preparing to ensure continuous traffic.
Reaction
The President's Office reacted to the attacks throughout Ukraine. "The air alert remains activated throughout Ukraine. There are missile hits. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded. I ask you: do not leave the shelters. Take care of yourself and your families. Let's hold on and be strong," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.
His chief-of-staff Andriy Yermak called the Russians "terrorists who do not even hide it".
