Hamas' attack on Israel, a new rally in front of the KCSA, and an official inspection at the TRC: October 7 highlights

Hamas militants attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip; Ukraine is checking information about the possible death of one of its citizens. Another rally was held near the KCSA building to demand more funds for the Armed Forces. The Ternopil Territorial Recruitment Office is undergoing an inspection. We have collected the main news for October 7.

The Palestinian Islamic group Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, announced the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel on the morning of October 7. A barrage of rockets were fired across the country, and militants entered Israeli territory in a number of different places.

The Israeli army declared a "state of readiness for war" and then said it was beginning to attack targets in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas attacked Israel

On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, announced the launch of Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa against Israel. A flurry of missiles was fired across the country, and militants infiltrated Israel in several different places.

The Israeli army declared a "state of war readiness" and later said it was beginning to attack targets in the Gaza Strip.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is checking information about the possible death of a Ukrainian citizen in Israel and is searching for two more Ukrainian citizens.

As of the evening, more than 1,400 people were officially reported injured in Israel. Another 200 people are believed to have been killed. The Israeli Defense Forces also reports an unspecified number of soldiers and civilians taken hostage by terrorists.

Situation at the front

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are continuing their offensive in the Melitopol sector and are conducting assault operations in the Bakhmut sector, the General Staff reported on the evening of October 7.

Ukrainian defenders are inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, as well as depleting the enemy along the entire front line.

There were 50 combat engagements during the day. The enemy launched 8 missile and 25 air strikes and fired 30 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas.

At the same time, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 8 strikes on the areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment and 5 strikes on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.

Missile troops hit an artillery unit, an area of concentration of personnel, and an enemy electronic warfare station.

Another rally in front of the KCSA

On the morning of October 7, protesters who oppose the misallocation of budget funds gathered again in front of the Kyiv City Council. This is the fourth such action.

According to activist Roman Abrashyn, the protesters managed to get the Kyiv authorities to allocate an additional UAH 1.26 billion for the Defense Forces. The Kyiv City Council voted for this decision on October 3.


One video shows men in military uniform escorting a man in civilian clothes arm-in-arm into a minibus. You can hear people quarreling. In another, a man is forced into a minibus after a conversation with the military. It is unknown what the man told the military.

In Ternopil, men were forced into a van

The Ternopil Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support said it would conduct an internal investigation after a video of uniformed men pushing civilians into a minibus began circulating online.

“What provoked the conflict? Was it verbal abuse and insolence on the part of citizens towards employees of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support? Humiliation of their dignity? Striking a serviceman, as in one of the videos?” the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support asks.

Medvedchuk's friend was detained

The Security Service of Ukraine announced the neutralization of a criminal group that terrorized residents of Ukraine's western border. As a result of a special operation in Zakarpattia region, the group's leader, a current regional deputy who is a friend of Viktor Medvedchuk, a suspect in high treason, was detained.

Law enforcement officers found that the criminals created artificial conflict situations or fictitious “commercial” disputes and then demanded money for their resolution.
