The Russian military bombed a military hospital at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. As a result, the operating room collapsed, killing severely wounded soldiers who were being treated there, Azov Regiment reported on Telegram, attaching a video of the aftermath of the attack.

Ukrainian defenders say that the occupiers spent the whole night dropping multi-ton air bombs capable of breaking through any concrete defensive structures above the military field hospital at Azovstal steelworks. Then they continued to shell the ruins with naval artillery.

As a result, some of the already wounded servicemen died, others were newly wounded and suffered concussions.

Due to the enemy attack, part of the room collapsed, including the operating room. Azov reports that this renders impossible help to the injured, even in the previous conditions.

"The Geneva Convention guarantees the protection of inpatient and mobile medical institutions, they should not be attacked! The wounded and sick should be protected, regardless of whether they are civilians or military personnel (combatants). The wounded should be provided with the necessary assistance without any discrimination," Mariupol defenders stress.

Azov Regiment calls on international human rights organizations to react to the fact that Russia continues to try to destroy even those defenders of Mariupol who can no longer bear arms.

On the morning of April 28, Azov reported that Russian troops continued to fire on Mariupol and carried out 50 air strikes in just one night.

Mariupol is blocked

Mariupol has remained under siege since the beginning of the war. The city was almost completely destroyed by the Russian military. Some Mariupol residents are forcibly deported to the territory of the unrecognized "people's republic" of Donetsk or to the territory of the Russian Federation. The deportees have their Ukrainian documents confiscated and are subsequently sent to so-called "filtration camps". According to preliminary estimates, at least 20,000 Mariupol residents have died since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Currently, Ukrainian defenders (including approximately 500 wounded) and about 1,000 civilians, including women and children, remain blocked at the Azovstal plant.

Russia previously claimed to have decided to lay siege to Azovstal instead of storming the steelworks, but the occupiers continue to bomb the enterprise. In addition, Russia regularly announces alleged humanitarian corridors for civilians without agreements with Ukraine, amid ongoing shelling.
